Happy Thursday! I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the warmer weather, I know I certainly am. If you haven’t been feeling very motivated on the fitness front or are wanting to switch things up, this post is for you! At the beginning of quarantine, I didn’t think that I would have much motivation to work out. I was loving my workout routine at school and was extremely discouraged at the thought of being restricted to at-home workouts. I expected to fall out of routine and jump right onto the struggle bus.
To my surprise, it’s been the exact opposite! I’ve tried out tons of new workouts and have finally found a routine that I’m loving. For the first time ever, I’ve been home in Boulder with no real plans or agenda. Aside from finishing up school and working on the blog, I have had so much time to be outside and explore the mountains. The trails in our backyard have saved me! Whether it be escaping to get some fresh air or hiking for a workout, I’ve never been more grateful to be so close to the mountains. In addition to frequent hikes, I’ve been loving a variety of at home workouts.
At the beginning of at the stay at home order, my sister and I started an 8 week workout program. This ebook style program has a few different kinds of workouts, all body weight and doable from home! Having focused on CycleBar and pilates at school, I hadn’t been doing much “strength training.” These new workouts were challenging and left us soooo sore! We were determined to stick with the schedule and complete the full 8 weeks.
Coming into quarantine, I was in pretty good spin shape from being a regular at CycleBar. I was bummed at the thought of losing my progress and having to start at square one when the studios opened back up again. Upon arriving back home, I remembered that we had an old stationary bike in the basement and was so stoked. I did some research and saw that Peloton was offering a 90-day free trial of their app (score!). I was blown away by the quantity, quality, and variety of workouts they offered. I jumped on the stationary bike, did my first workout, and fell in love! My two favorite instructors are Cody Rigsby who is so fun, he’ll make you forget you’re even working out, and Alex Toussaint whose classes are super intense yet motivating and uplifting. If you have access to a stationary bike, I would highly recommend trying out a Peloton workout!
Finally, during quarantine I have started running again. Slowly. I can think of so many times in the past that I told myself I was going to get into running shape and started out too strong. I compared myself to other runners and would set out too fast, go too far, and literally die. After a few failed attempts, I’ve learned that isn’t the best way to go about it. This time around, I told myself I would ignore any judgement and start short and slow. I’ve learned that running is SUCH a mental game and if you can let go of all comparison and just run, it is so much more enjoyable. And if right now I sound like I’m an expert runner, I most certainly am not. Today, I’m still only running (and struggling through) 5Ks. But the difference is that now I’m not checking my Apple Watch every 5 seconds to see how much longer I have, and am actually starting to enjoy it! I have been tracking my runs on Strava — follow along and we can hold each other accountable 😉
What workouts have you been doing during quarantine? Let me know — I’m always looking to try new things and switch it up. Thanks for reading and enjoy your weekend!
